Leslie began her relationship with FEC in 1982 and became a member in 1983. Leslie was the first missionary to go through the First Evan Missions Apprenticeship program which was during the summer of 1987. After this, Leslie became an approved missionary.

Leslie has been a member of Wycliffe Bible Translators since 1984. She has served in Indonesia, Singapore, Dallas, and New Zealand. She began her work in Auckland, New Zealand in 1999. She works with Wycliffe whose goal is to make sure people have the Word of God available in the language they understand. In February 2022, Leslie married David Rutherfurd, native to New Zealand, who is a retired Wycliffe missionary she met in Auckland.
Leslie’s current ministry goals include, representing Wycliffe at various mission, Bible College, and church events; developing and delivering Growing in Cultural Awareness materials; coaching in both Partnership Development and Language and Culture Learning; and being a member care resource for Wycliffe.
